The Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe originated in the 1930s in Massachusetts, USA.

The story goes that the inventor realized she was running out of a fundamental ingredient for making chocolate chip cookies, Baker's chocolate (a very bitter, melted type of chocolate usable only in cooking).

He replaced it with a bar of semi-sweet chocolate, cut into small pieces. Taking the cookies out of the oven, she noticed that the chocolate pieces had not melted, but were all intact and clearly visible inside the cookies. From the moment they were served it was a triumph.

Now chocolate chip cookies are the most famous cookies in the world.
